Periodic Inspection
of Fixed Installations

Introduced with the publication of the 16th Edition Wiring Regulations in Jan 1993 and now known as BS7671:2008.

The requirement for Periodic Inspection and testing of fixed electrical installations was specified in Guide Note 3 Part 2 sections 4.2 & 4.3, which accompany the regulations.

Generally undertaken on a 5 yearly cycle. Periodic Inspections are necessary due to wear and tear, loading and ageing of installations, change of use and alterations or additions.

More frequent testing may be mandatory if the premises are subject to licensing by Authorities.
