Our work with petrol and commercial vehicle refuelling stations is renowned, with our highly qualified contractors delivering a full range of forecourt testing and inspection works. But what’s involved in our petrol forecourt testing and inspection services? In this blog post, we answer that all-important question.

Why does the wiring on petrol forecourts need specialist testing?

Both petrol forecourts and commercial vehicle refuelling stations use electrical installations to do what they do best. Our work with both ensures the highest standards of electrical and fire safety are upheld, despite the hazardous nature of the setting.

Which regulations govern forecourt testing and inspection?

Petrol stations in particular are subject to several specialist regulations, with the electrical wiring on forecourts needed to be tested, inspected and maintained with the help of a professional.

Under the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989 (EWR) and the Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres Regulations 2002 (DSEAR), the station operator must have all electrical installations annually inspected and tested. They must also select a competent electrical contractor to complete the works.

By law, their chosen electrical contractor must have strong knowledge of the electrical section of the Blue Guide and BS.7671: 2008 (IEE Wiring Regulations). They must also have experience installing, testing and maintaining electrical wiring and equipment for use in a hazardous area.
